Our Brother's Place

WELCOME TO TEAM OBP!

Our Brother's Place is a shelter program operated by the Bethesda Project. Opened in 2003, its day program serves 200 men, and it's overnight shelter houses 150.

OBP offers year-round supportive services and emergency housing offered through collaboration with Gateway Services Center, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Old First Reformed Church and Trinity Memorial Church. Over the years, the shelter program has been the gateway for the vast majority of the men who now live in our transitional and permanent residences.

The Director of Shelter Services is Bob Hayes.

TEAM LEADER: MARISA JONES

Marisa moved to Philadelphia to pursue a Master of Science in Social Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studies access to healthcare. She learned about Back on My Feet at the 2010 Broad Street Run, and was inspired to join after seeing so many people in BoMF shirts running and groups of cheering fans supporting them along the way. "I first joined Back on My Feet because I missed having a team to run with and I didn't feel connected to Philadelphia. This quickly changed after joining team OBP."

For her, Back on My Feet is all about community. "What I love most about Our Brother's Place is how my teammates and I are all there for each other - pushing each other to run further and faster, but also to get through what life throws our way. We help each other become better individuals, friends, citizens, and advocates for ourselves - living happier, healthier lives."

"One of my favorite things about BOMF is the races. During a tough race, I think about my teammates who are running, and knowing that we're all in it together gives me the strength to keep pushing. People think running is an individual sport, but with Back on My Feet its not because we all get to celebrate our accomplishments together."

FEATURED CHAPTER MEMBER FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH 2011:  Olaniyan A.

Olani is being honored for his accomplishments in both his personal and race life. Since joining Back on My Feet in January 2010, Olani, a member of the Our Brother’s Place team, he has run nearly 550 miles and has maintained a 99 percent attendance. He is incredibly persistent and is a goal setter; his achievements reflect this. Olani says that the best advice he can give to newcomers to BoMF is to be consistent and not to expect miracles in two weeks. “Be consistent and things will happen.” To read Olani's full story, click here.
