WELCOME TO THE SHEILA DENNIS HOUSE'S TEAM PAGE!

Sheila Dennis is an all female homeless shelter located in Philadelphia, which houses 105 single females. They are working closely with Back on My Feet to further their common mission of assisting those experiencing homelessness by establishing this new woman's team. This form of creative collaboration is necessary to reach as many different individuals as possible because homelessness is an affliction which does not discriminate by gender, race, or creed.

TEAM LEADERS: Georgia Lawrence & Caitlin Powers

Georgia grew up in Rhode Island and moved to the Philly area to attend Bryn Mawr College. After working all over the country with City Year for two years, Georgia moved back to the Philly area in August 2011. Having always been an athlete, she was craving a chance to join a team for regular exercise and give back to the city she'd grown to love. A teammate from her college lacrosse team told her about Back on My Feet and she signed up to join the Sheila Dennis team right away. She is constantly inspired by the strength of the women she runs with. Georgia is excited to continue to expand the team and support every member in achieving their goals.

Caitlin: “I love Back on My Feet because it is a beautiful example of what the human experience is all about: Sharing of yourself with another person, learning from another person, challenging yourself, seizing the day and exercising your body. At 5:30am, nothing else seems to matter except the women I am running with and the conversation we are having. The perseverance, optimism and warmth of the ladies at Sheila Dennis have inspired me and challenged me to never give up.”

Featured member of the month October 2011: Ramona P.

Since Ramona has started with Back on My Feet she has set many goals for herself. She is interested in enrolling in the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) housekeeping training. Ramona has been working on the first step in this process by going to GED classes every week. Outside of her professional goals Ramona is focused on her miles. Every mile that Ramona adds to her total is progress forward. She is about to hit 50 miles and recently completed a 5k with Running for Answers. Read more about Ramona's story on the BoMF blog!
